What is a temporary email?

A temporary email is an address that works for a while and then disappears. You’ll also see it called a disposable email, an anonymous email, a fake email, tempmail or a 10-minute email, and the page that makes one a temporary email generator; the idea is the same. It receives real messages, so you can confirm a sign-up or copy a code, but it isn’t tied to your name and you don’t have to look after it.

Sites ask for an email before letting you in for several reasons: to check you’re a person, to send a confirmation link, and quite often to add you to their mailing list. A disposable address gets you past that step without handing over the address you use for everything else.

Is it really free?

How long does a temporary email last? Is it a 10-minute email?

Longer: an hour from when it’s created, not 10 minutes. You can renew it at any time, and the countdown goes back to 60 minutes.

Can I create a temporary Gmail, Hotmail or Outlook address?

No. @gmail.com, @hotmail.com and @outlook.com addresses are created by Google and Microsoft, and we don’t hand any out. If you only want variants of your own Gmail, add +something before the @ (your.name+shop@gmail.com): they reach your inbox, but the site sees your real address. If you’d rather not give it, use the one at the top.

Can I send email from a temporary email address?

No. It only receives mail; you can’t reply or send from it.

Do I need a password? Can someone else read my mailbox?

You don’t need one. Your mailbox only opens in your browser: even if someone has the link, they won’t see your messages. Just keep in mind that anyone who knows the address can send mail to it.
